Just Be You by Carol Robson.

Standard

Just Be You

You’ve endured a life of!

Told it will be this way

told it will be that way

told, told, told told,

from the earliest time.

Roles decided.

Learn this, learn that

the right way

it has to be

their way.

Be different,

free thinking,

challenge them,

use constructive argument

be prepared

to be labelled,

different,

a rebel.

We are not

all the same

challenge them

your life,

your choice,

your human rights,

being broken

challenge them

your life,

your choice

stop them,

shaping you

just be you.

Told you cannot,

ask why not

challenge

be different

make mistakes

they’re your mistakes

learn from them

stand out

make a difference

your choice

your life

shape yourself

true to yourself

just be you

not what others,

want you to be.

You don’t need,

role models.

Me by Carol Robson.

ME

I’ve such self-belief that it – scares me
I refuse to let my past – define me
In the here and now – poet me
I’ve proved I can do it – performer me.

Some people cannot get past – history me
Clouds their vision to see – true me
Ignored and never accepted – dislike me
Or in truth, the realisation – discriminate me.

My true friends – love me
Loved my performances – support me
Female poet and performer – gladdens me
My authentic and fulfilling life – just me
Feeling alive – REAL ME.

Dance of Good and Evil by Carol Robson

Standard

DANCE OF GOOD AND EVIL

Uncommon sense breaks the frailness;
a mind disorganised, yet still not broken.
Good, light thoughts; evil, dark thoughts,
like bed-fellows – side by side.

A constant battle of wills:
good and evil challenging
like a passionate circling dance –
Tarantellas courting each other.

Your behaviours challenged by desires;
your free will attracts the evil,
your morality fights to transcend this,
your virtues fight for spiritual purity.

In time you fight your final battle,
the final dance of light and dark,
the brightness of your soul
rejecting the deep darkness of your mind.

You’re now here in a good place –
at least, until you’re asked for another dance.

Smash That Glass Ceiling.

Standard

Speak your loud words
Break your chains
Nay!
Shout your loud words
Break life’s chains
Stop!
Discrimination
Cronyism
Scream louder your words
Smash!
That fucking glass ceiling.

Born This Way by Carol Robson

Standard

Born This Way.

The homophobes rally
governments and religions
cultures and societies
the elite
the ignoramus
and of course
the misanthropes.

Attacked by the homophobes
condemned by the abusers
priming the vulnerable
or do not accept
their own sexuality
yet continue
to live and pray
in their religious
patriarchal society
while wearing frocks
and a leader
with a penchant
for red shoes
who orders
don’t do as I do
but as I say
and they tell me
because I’m gay
that I’m destined
for eternal damnation.

Government’s corrupted
living with corruption
self-serving beliefs
lining their pockets
screwing the vulnerable.
I’m gay
and they reckon
I’m the one
who is “Bent”

Understanding
Acceptance
we are real
we won’t go away
we don’t corrupt
we are not a lifestyle
we were born this way.
